It is a type of marketing which does not exist online. It includes reaching out to people using television, print, radio, billboards, direct mail, and other means. It is one of the oldest forms of marketing that is still used today. Before the advent of digital media, businesses solely relied on traditional media to reach their target audience.

Difference between Traditional and Digital Marketing?

One of the major differences between traditional and digital marketing is the medium via which a marketing message is delivered to an audience. While traditional marketing makes use of traditional media such as advertising in newspapers and magazines, digital marketing makes use of digital media such as social media platforms, websites, and so on.

Is Traditional Marketing still relevant in Today’s World?

All of us will agree with the fact that digital marketing has evolved dramatically over the last several years, from utilising simple banners to expanding social outreach and now adopting effective SEO strategies to rank higher on search engine result pages. 

When we look at digital marketing today, we see it as a fast go-to marketing technique for business users, and not only because of so many added advantages, but also because no one can truly say they do not have access to the internet or are not active on social media platforms, giving businesses a great opportunity to connect with their audience with ease. 

But does this mean that traditional marketing is dead completely? 

NO. Marketing is all about reaching out to people, and if you look around, you will see a lot of people who are reachable. So, traditional marketing persists, but is no longer as relevant as it once was because most people access the information online. Remember the last time you looked for information in newspaper or magazine. You don’t recall much, do you? That’s because with everything available to us 24/7 on the internet, we don’t do it as often we used to.

So, with almost everything going digital these days, it’s normal to wonder why some people still prefer traditional marketing over digital marketing.

The following are the reasons for this:

Familiarity- People are already used to traditional media for marketing, so they don’t need an explanation as to what these are for. When they have time, they can simply read a newspaper or a magazine and identify it is an advertisement for a brand or product. Digital marketing on the other hand, may not work well for people who are unfamiliar with technology and have minimal knowledge of how to navigate through internet.

Diverse audiences- Traditional marketing allows you to target large groups of people from a variety of demographics. Out-of-home advertising, which includes everything from benches to billboards, instantly capture’s the audience’s attention and generates outstanding results.

Creates credibility- Traditional marketing gives a business more credibility than digital marketing. While digital marketing allows you to reach more people, it does not always promote a business as trustworthy or established. Printed ads and banners are often perceived as more trustworthy. One of the key reasons for this is that people link traditional marketing businesses with financial stability.

Local audience- It plays an important role in reaching out to local audiences and communicating with customers one-on-one. Using traditional media such as newspaper ads, local television commercials, or billboards puts your company in a good place.

Promotional material can be saved and reused- One of the advantages of printing materials such as flyers, posters or newspapers is that they can be taken anywhere and read at any time, even if there is no internet connection. Furthermore, these printed materials can be kept for reuse or recycled.

These are a few advantages which still makes a place for traditional marketing in today’s world so it should not be overlooked.
